Why Study History?

I came across this video after reading a chapter in my Social Studies Methods book.  I thought it pertained to the chapter because it really illustrates WHY it is important to study history.   It is important to study past history so that students understand how they fit into our history.  Also, it is important to understand past history because it makes it easier to understand the present.  Students can also learn from past mistakes and successes.  It is also important to study history because it creates a sense of unity as a nation.  This movie was inspiring and could be used in the classroom.  It would be a good opening video in the beginning of the year with students to help explain to them why they are learning what they are.  The pictures are moving and go well with the music.  The creator does an excellent job explaining why history is important.
